A shoppers guide to Hastings

My weekend spent in Hastings is one of my highlights of the summer of 2020. We stayed in a house located in the charming medieval old town which runs along the west side of the town. Hastings old town has a charming selection of vintage, antique and independent homeware shops, cafes and restaurants. Located in East Sussex this town is along the coast, mixing sea side vibes with a lively bustling high street. It was a pleasure to stroll the sunny streets of Hastings and to find another English town that celebrates and understands the importance of an independent high street. After this last year its so vital to support small businesses, if you are planning to visit Hastings here is my small selection of independent shops to visit while you're there.

IRTH DESIGNS

Irth Designs offers a range of eclectic homewares, gifts, cards and accessories from around the world and the UK. Filled with colourful textiles, cushions, throws and rugs this shop celebrates well made objects that can be passed on to others for their enjoyment. 'Irth' means 'interitance' in Arabic. One of the many reasons I believe we should buy from independent shops is because they also support individual artists and creatives dreams, not to mention the items are unique and ethically made. This is the go to store if you are looking for a treasure trove of homeware items.

SIMPLY GARDEN

The Simply Garden is located further down the street located on George Street in Hastings old town. Walking into this store you are met with an abundance of greenery set against a classic checked floor. The shop is packed full of house plants, air plants, pots, terrariums, and dried flowers. Gardening tools and decor also line the shelfs, including watering cans, mirrors and garden furniture. I would recommend heading to this store towards the end of the day so you are not carrying any plants around with you.
