How to create a Hollywood design

Hollywood regency design is inspired by the Hollywood's golden era, glamorous, eclectic and theatrical to the core! This style is for people who love to feel at home in a hotel room. William Haines was the designer known for pioneering the style, by bringing the Hollywood glamour inside the home for his celebrity clientele. Another notable designer was Dorothy Draper who was described as 'anti-minimalist’ who brought an abundance of drama, bright upholstery and animal print to the design.

Style Breakdown

  1. Mix singular colour palettes with deco patterns

Hollywood Regency tends to go big but remains within a singular colour palette using two or three complementary colours. I am obsessed with how this design mixes the geometric textures with the navy and magenta palette. The whole scheme is brought together in a flamboyant yet elegant way. This design is a great example of how to add rich colour and symmetrical prints into a small space, and still achieve a sense of homeliness and glamour.

Open floor plan

Hollywood's famous would throw lavish parties, so it only makes sense that the decor would be fit for entertaining. Keeping an open floor plan including smaller and low slung furniture would provide the perfect space for guests moving around the home. Stick to clean simple lines and soft shapes when it comes to furniture and make sure it oozes luxury.

Accessorise

The designer Dorothy Draper famously said "I always put in one controversial item. It makes people talk" Make a statement in your home with fringed lampshades, avant-garde art, sculptures, brass or gold accents and oversized mirrors. Collectors finds scattered throughout the scheme evoke escapism and drama to the Hollywood style.

Statement Lighting

Oversized and statement lighting is a key aspect for the art deco aesthetic adding that essential glitz to the room. Think oversized side table lights next to the bed, chandeliers in the living room and pairs of ornate lights on the walls.
